Carlo Nason for Mazzega Chandelier Italy 1968
Carlo Nason's chandelier exemplifies 20th-century Italian design. Created in the late 1960s during a vibrant period for Venetian designer Nason, known for collaborations with Mazzega, it explores organic shapes and innovative materials. It features a sculptural form made of circular discs crafted from opaline or mother-of-pearl glass, which iridescently reflect light and produce colorful, lively effects.
This chandelier consists of a solid nickel lamp base with 36 hooks and a matching ceiling rose, suspended from a steel cable with separate wiring. It holds 36 handcrafted, large-sized Murano glass plates in two-tone iridescent rainbow-shimmering white glass, each one uniquely handcrafted. The glass plates measure 15cm / 5.9 inches in diameter, representing the large size.
The discs, which vary in size, hang from a slender metal frame, often made of brass or chrome, extending from a subtle ceiling rose with a power cable. The design resembles a cloud or droplets, offering organic, minimalist elegance suited for modern interiors. The mother-of-pearl glaze softens the light, creating a diffuse glow that makes it both a functional light source and a piece of decorative art.
