Soriana Lounge Chair by Afra & Tobia Scarpa for Cassina 1970s in black leather
This is a rare Soriana Armchair, recently reupholstered in top grain aniline black leather, designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa and manufactured by Cassina in 1970s. This piece has been newly reupholstered. This chair retains original two front casters as well as back legs. The metal frame doesn't show any pitting and is great condition.
Cassina’s Soriana Armchair was an intuitive vision by Afra and Tobia Scarpa in 1969 and was destined to re-write the history of upholstered furniture. By taking advantage of new polyurethane foam forming techniques, the duo crafted an armchair that, for the first time, needed no internal support but took its shape from the grip of the metal structure that embraces it. Soriana features soft, generous contours, designed for casual, sophisticated comfort that opens the door to a more laid-back lifestyle. In 1970 Soriana was awarded the Compasso d’Oro as a masterpiece of complexity achieved through simple tools.
